AS Principal Patron of Scannappeal I would like to thank your readers who have supported our charity in the past year. I have visited different clinical departments many times since I became involved with Scannappeal. What is clear is that, regardless of what is happening within the NHS, our local hospitals have talented and dedicated clinicians working with some of the best equipment in the country. This includes the first 3D heart scanner in the UK, a green light laser to treat prostate cancer and advanced diagnostic equipment to detect the spread of breast cancer. All of this equipment, and much more, has been funded by Scannappeal and is still being used to benefit patients who live and work near you.
None of this would have been possible without the support of so many local people and organisations. From donations to volunteering, coming along to events or undertaking challenges, I am grateful to all those people who have helped make a difference for others in our local community. Together you have helped raise over £10million for vital life saving equipment, mainly to diagnose and treat patients with cancer or heart disease.
The Scannappeal team is still working hard to raise funds. Currently this is for digital breast screening equipment to improve the early diagnosis of breast cancer at Wycombe, and for the rehabilitation of stroke patients at Amersham hospital.
I hope you will continue to help Scannappeal in the future.
As we mark 26 years of fundraising this weekend, please look out for our volunteer collectors in Wycombe town centre and donate any spare money you may have. Every penny will mean we are a step closer to improving and extending the care of local patients.
Thank you very much.
