There’s much more than ‘not speeding’

I read the letter from Claire of Chesham about her speed awareness course with some sadness, as it shows just how successfully the government has dumbed down the skill of driving into the simple, but highly misleading idea of ‘not speeding’ – and made a small fortune in the process. There is so much more to good driving than just ‘not speeding’!

Her speed awareness course was like going on a course on good health, only for the entire day to be spent on the single subject of the importance of drinking enough water. No mention of diet, exercise etc without which you cannot have good health. This is why it’s so misleading.

But that’s what the skill of driving has been reduced to these days. If Claire REALLY wants to be safer on the road, then she should take an IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) course where she will find out about the rest of good driving and being safe on the road.
