catherine Bearder says we will lose millions of jobs if we leave the EU (BFP, March 28). What she has probably forgotten is that since we joined, 40 years ago, we have lost our ship-building industry, our aircraft industry, our heavy engineering industry and our fishing industry, to name just four.

If we leave the EU, which is UKIP’s intention, we will become global traders as we once were, and not just rely on Europe for trade.

She may also be unaware that we buy far more goods from Europe than they buy from us – another reason for leaving. — John Fagan, Fulmer
