MEMBERS of Beaconsfield Concerts were sorrowed to hear that their Honorary President, Richard Hickox CBE, suffered a suspected heart attack while conducting a rehearsal in Cardiff and passed away on Sunday, November 23 2008. This is a tremendous loss for the world of music and particularly for British music.
Hickox was a superb conductor and interpreter of choral and orchestral music, who championed the music of Ralph Vaughan Williams, amongst other fine British composers.
Born in Stokenchurch, his early career was forged in our area, with many members of the Wooburn Singers having enjoyed his direction. He went on to found the City of London Sinfonia and to enjoy an international career.
