So difficult for patients to travel to Stoke Mandeville

FOR pregnant women needing to go to Stoke Mandeville from High Wycombe, there is an uncomfortable and anxious journey which a complete service at Wycombe General Hospital could have dealt with without any adversity.

Now we learn there are more significant changes challenging Wycombe Hospital’s traditional roles an an all-service hospital.

This will make life particularly difficult for those without a car and not able to avail themselves of a downgraded emergency service.

I agree. For anyone without a car getting to/from Stoke Mandeville is a pain. I've spent hours on the internet trying to work out how I can visit a friend (due to go into hospital) during the evenings, and basically I can't unless I pay for a taxi on at least one leg of the journey. So frustrating.

With respect to the movement of services from Wycombe to Stoke Mandeville is to put it mildly poor planning and ill thought out. even as a driver it takes between 35 to 45 minutes to drive from Marlow to Aylesbury - there is no direct bus or rail links and use public transport requires at least 2 changes of bus and a journey time of well over an hour and half each way. its easier to get from Marlow to Reading, Oxford or Wexham Park - in fact it easier and cheaper to get to St Mary's Paddington than Aylesbury from Marlow. If they need to move things to save money Just move the complex or very long term stuff and leave the simple day to day things at Wycombe or let Patents use services in other counties where access is easier. Any Pensioner or Mother with Children and no car might as well not bother going - Mind you that's one way of cutting costs - no patents able to get to the place equals a cheap and efficient hospital

As ussual it is idiot desk dwellers who probably do not even live in Bucks or use the services that make the decisions! They do not care about the local public!
I have lived in Wycombe all my life - I know what a fantastic hospital WGH used to be before the transfer of services to Stoke Mandeville! I am sure that WGH has always dealt with a population far greater than the population dealt with at Stoke! A town the size of Wycombe (and its surrounding areas) need a good District General Hospital covering all basic specialities including maternity and paediatrics!

Totally agree. Well said. Let's lobby our MP and "the powers to be" to reinstate our hospital.

It would be nice to be able to lobby our MP about the Wycombe Hospital but as Marlow's MP isn’t the same one that covers Wycombe anymore and he can’t even bother to live in the area (He even lists his home address as being - London and that shows how much he cares about those who employs him) - why should he care what happens to a hospital outside his constituency and in a town that he has no connections with in either his personal or business life - especial as it’s much easier from those in Beaconsfield where his main constituency is to use Wexham Park – Slough than Wycombe any way.

Good point, what a stupid division of boundaries as Marlow is linked much more to High Wycombe than Beaconsfield! It is still worth using the democratic methods via local representatives & MP.
I live just outside Marlow and have Steven Baker MP for High Wycombe as my MP. He seems pretty good and I do contact him. I will be taking up the point about keeping the hospital.
