Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield has stated he saw ‘some very good things’ despite his side’s 1-0 away loss at struggling Morecambe.

In what was a real six-pointer for both sides as the Chairboys continue to push for the play-offs, whilst the Shrimps are looking to avoid relegation, Cole Stockton scored an 89th-minute winner to secure the North West side’s first victory in 10 games.

For Wycombe, they remain five points off the top six with four games left.

Speaking on the positives after the defeat at the Mazuma Stadium, Bloomfield said: “I think we did some very good things in the game as we had 20 shots away from home, we hit the bar, their keeper made some brilliant saves against David and Lewis, along with several nearly moments.

“But to have all of that and leave with nothing is very disappointing.

“I thought we played most of the first half in their half and territorially, I was really pleased with our efforts as we got in behind and used their space, but, there were a couple of moments we could have made more with.

“It opened up in the second half so if we look at the facts, we’ve had 20 shots on goal away from home, and on another day, we did more than enough to win the game of football.

“We’re very disappointed in the way things have turned out because we want to be better.”

The loss also means that Wycombe are yet to win a match with more possession than their opponent since March last year.

And this stat continued on April 15, as the Chairboys had 55 per cent of the ball, compared to Morecambe’s 45.

Speaking on the ball control, Bloomfield said: “Having more possession doesn’t win you games, goals do.

"So I’m not going to hide behind that in the slightest.

“We can’t hide behind anything as we have to be better if we want to get higher up the table.

"But, we did create a lot of opportunities to try and find that winner as it’s frustrating that we didn’t score.

"The boys care about their season and this club and I’ve said that before.

"We’ve got a long journey to talk things out and we’ve got another game on Tuesday to try and put things right."

Up next is Cambridge away on April 18.
