A restaurant in Marlow has confirmed that someone who entered the eatery before their temporary closure had the coronavirus. 

The Ship on West Street confirmed the news on their Facebook page today (Sunday, March 22).

In their statement, they said: "We would like to advise anybody who visited The Ship in the days/weeks before we temporarily closed on March 18 to be extra vigilant around social contact and would strongly recommend you to self-isolate.

"Unfortunately, we can confirm that there has been a confirmed case of coronavirus."

The Ship also confirmed that they received the diagnoses of the confirmed case on March 21, but will not give specifics on whether it was a member of staff or customer who has got COVID19. 

After posting the original statement on Facebook, they also said, 'if you have been in recently you will potentially have been exposed.'

Following the news, many customers and regulars have sent their well wishes on Facebook to the undisclosed person who has recently been diagnosed.

They have also praised the restaurant for their honesty and openness regarding the situation. 

The Ship is the first restaurant in Marlow to confirm that someone has had the illness when entering their premises.

Speaking on the social media site, Adela Hollingsworth said: "This is what makes you so wonderful for closing your doors and protecting your customers before you were even told to.

"I really hope this person makes a full and fast recovery.

Hannah Smith said: "Get well soon to the person who is poorly and others who may fall ill.

"Great you were able to put something up here."

Sara Jane Humphrys Milton Really added: "Good of you to be open about it and let people know. Thanks!
