The dates for this year’s Santa’s Fun Run in Marlow have changed again due to the lockdown restrictions.

Due to coronavirus, the annual race will be done over the course of two days with participants logging their times into the Santa’s Fun Run website.

It was due to take place over the course of December 5 and 6.

However, due to the second lockdown of the year, which began on November 5, and with it ending on December 2, John Prout, the Chair of the Marlow Santa’s Fun Run, has confirmed that the dates have been moved to December 19 and 20.

He also confirmed that those taking part can even do the run after the selected dates, if it were to suit them.

He said: “Even though the new lockdown is due to end on December 2, we are now left with no choice but to move the dates and change the distribution process.

“Behind the scenes, a lot of work is involved in preparing the packs for runners and teams, and the logistics no longer work.

“We have therefore decided to remove the option of collection from our retail depots and to offer new dates that maximise flexibility for entrants over a busy holiday period.

“We do hope that people understand the reasons for these changes – and that the event provides a genuinely bright spot in these troubled times.

“The event is a fantastic charity fundraiser – and charities need our support now more than ever before.”

Due to the changes, all entrant packs will now be home-delivered free of charge, with participates being able to walk, run or cycle the 5k distance.

This year will also be the first for the ‘K9 Challenge’, which will allow dog owners to walk or run with fellow dog enthusiasts.

Marlow Thames Rotary Club President Nicole Hockly added “The Rotary Clubs of Marlow have been running this event for 16 years now – and have raised over £100,000 for local charities in the last three years alone.

“We don’t want 2020 to spoil our run.”
