Gardens and pathways were submerged in water as the river burst its banks - with residents being warned that property flooding is "expected".

As water levels continued to rise a specialised team was deployed at Longridge activity centre as canoes from Great Marlow School needed recovering before causing they created hazards.

The volunteer service is a highly skilled team that are trained to deal with incidents such as flooding.

With the use of a drone, all the boats were retrieved by the team with no injuries or damage being sustained.

Volunteer, Andrew Bant, said: “Some of the boats at Longridge activity centre had broken their mooring and were in the process of floating down the river.

“Responding to floods and providing support of that nature isn’t something you want members of the public doing in their wellies because it can be incredibly dangerous.

“We saw this as an incident that our capabilities would protect the public and retrieve the boats.

“If those canoes went down the river they could not just damage themselves but they could cause obstructions in the river.

“We deployed our flood first responder team, a team of four people and one operations manager, we also had some drone support.

“We had four people in the river in full flood response gear to get in the river and collect the boats back and tie them back to the mooring.”
