A traditional German beer and food festival returns to a picturesque Buckinghamshire town – and offers free transport to festivalgoers.

Spread across three days, the third Wendover Oktoberfest raises funds for Macmillan Cancer Support with hosting by the BBC presenter Nigel Barden and a Bavarian meal inspired by celebrity chefs Cyrus Todiwala, Richard Corrigan and Phil Vickery.

So far the organisers, the Wendover- based cheesemonger and wine shop No2 Pound Street, has raised more than £7,000 but their aim is to reach £40,000.

In true Bavarian style, guests can enjoy the fun atmosphere inside the huge Oktoberfest Marquee, which seats 400 visitors on long lines of tables.

The Oktoberfest Marquee offers entertainment and music, beer and BBQ without forgetting German- style bratwurst plus a raffle and an auction, while the separate Artisan Pavillion has handpicked artisan food, drink and crafters.

Owner of No2 Pound Street James Grant said: “I am so excited to be able to help raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“They have lost so much over lockdown and are in desperate need of our help.”

The funds help Macmillan to pay for nurse training, local support and much needed equipment.

After No2 Pound Street secured a sponsorship from Masons Coach hire in Long Marston, visitors can have free transport to and from the event in Wendover.

In addition, a local Wendover company, DSM Fabrications Ltd, gave £5,000 in sponsorship funding, while Love Food Events offered time and expertise to get the event off the ground.

Wendover Oktoberfest is held at Ashbrook Recreation Ground, AKA Castle Park Aylesbury Road, Wendover, HP22 6JG on October 7, 8 and 9.
