Wycombe Wanderers manager Matt Bloomfield stated that his players were ‘gutted’ after falling to a 1-0 defeat away at struggling Morecambe.

Cole Stockton’s sixth of the season, which came in the 89th minute of the contest, condemned the Chairboys to their fifth loss in 11 games, as they remain in eighth place on 65 points, five off the play-off spots with four matches left to play.

Throughout the match at the Mazuma Stadium, the Adams Park outfit were the better side and accumulated 20 shots on goal.

Still, their attempts came in vain as Morecambe secured only their eighth league victory of the season, which was their first in 10.

After the loss, Bloomfield told the Free Press and BBC 3 Counties Radio: “I’m pleased with how we went about our play the second and third phase of attacks we had, how we probed and were patient.

“We’ve got Sam Vokes back which is key as we’ve now got an aerial threat, David Wheeler did well on the right, whilst Chem Campbell was again brilliant on the left in how he created chances, so there are positives.

“Some of the boys are building up their fitness after a period out injured so ideally, that isn’t the ideal time, especially at this stage of the season, but you can’t help that.

“The disappointing thing for me is that we didn’t make the most of those opportunities, as we had many chances to score.

“But, we’ve got more options to try and find that winner, and on another day, we would have found it.

“We need to pick the boys up as they’re gutted.”

Up next is Cambridge United on April 18 at the Abbey Stadium.
