Drivers are expected to face ongoing disruption to their journeys from today as a week of roadworks kicks off in a busy area.

Thames Water has apologised to motorists in High Wycombe as works begin to repair a leak on Cressex Road today (August 21).

Temporary traffic lights were installed on the roadway yesterday morning and are expected to remain in place until Wednesday, August 23 while the utility works continue.

The pedestrian footpath along Cressex Road will be closed while work takes place, but an alternative route has been provided.

The roadworks are scheduled to precede Buckinghamshire Council drainage works that are taking place on Cressex Road from August 24 to August 29 and will involve three-way traffic lights in operation between the junction of Holmer Lane and the pedestrian crossing.

The traffic control measures between August 24 and August 29 will operate on a 24-hour basis, with work taking place between 9:30am and 3:30pm.

A spokesperson for Thames Water said: "We are sorry to residents and motorists for any disruption caused whilst our team repair a leak on Cressex Road in High Wycombe.

"Due to the location of the leak, two-way traffic lights are in place with work expected to be finished within the coming days.

"We have 200 repair teams working tirelessly to fix leaks with activity taking place seven days a week and over 280 people working round the clock and mainly overnight to detect leaks not yet appearing at ground level."
