Aaron Amadi-Holloway’s injury time goal against Mansfield on Saturday was the ideal way to conclude an enjoyable day for Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth.

The forward came on as a second half substitute for Garry Thompson and volleyed the knockout blow as the Chairboys ended a sequence of five games without a victory with a 2-0 win.

With Mansfield throwing men forward to try and snatch a point Amadi-Holloway found himself in space inside the box and finished clinically to delight his manager.

“I am so pleased for Aaron Amadi-Holloway getting his goal, and like I say it is a big win for us because after three league defeats people do have a look and think are Wycombe falling off a cliff,” Ainsworth said.

“If we keep playing like that we will win more often than we lose this season. You will get the rewards you want so the consistency is important and we deserved to win today.”

The strike was only 22-year-old Amadi-Holloway’s second of the season and just the fifth in a career that is still only 51 games long.

Ainsworth has been a constant source of positivity throughout the Blues run of poor form and has remained steadfast in his belief that while results have been poor performances have been solid.

In spite of this confidence Ainsworth’s relief to be back to winning ways was clear as he celebrated with the traveling Wanderers fans at the final whistle and was delighted for his squad.

“I’m so pleased for the boys. It was Jason McCarthy’s first win, Aaron Pierre was back to his best and looked superb today and it was a great goal for Aaron,” he said.

“We’re a small squad punching above our weight, but with those fans behind us, I’m a happy man and I feel we’re back on track.”
